Kalgoorlie Miner

On September 20 there appeared in the Kalgoorlie Miner an article taken from the Evening Standard, in which a clergyman is reported to have made a vigorous attack on "magic" and "miracles," and to have placed Christian Science in the same category as superstition. Provided the report is correct, this attack was certainly more vigorous than Christian.

In case some of your readers may be misled by this article, kindly allow me to make one or two corrective statements as to the true nature of Christian Science teaching and practice.

A similar charge was laid against Jesus by those in high places, because he did healing works contrary to the generally accepted systems of his day. In Matthew, chapter 12, we read the following charge made by the Pharisees: "This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils." Jesus' reply ought, therefore, aptly to answer the charge made by the clergyman. Jesus said: "If I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges. But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you." Christian Science inculcates trust in God as the great and only Physician. Through its healing works God's ever-presence is proved, and He becomes better understood.
