Your esteemed newspaper contained on the third of May an article by a missionary priest with the heading, "Asian Currents in Norwegian Spiritual Life." As the statements about Christian Science which appeared in this article are very misleading, I beg to ask space for some corrections.

Christian Science is built wholly on the Bible. Christian Science is demonstrable. It elucidates the laws which underlie the teachings and words of Jesus, and it demands of its followers that they shall show their faith by their works. This requires moral and spiritual qualifications rather than intellectual. Christian Science is, however, so simple in its fundamentals that little children grasp it without difficulty. Furthermore, it has no mysticism at all about it. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy gives a complete statement of its teachings, and this book must be studied in connection with the Bible.

Christian Science does not teach, as many believe, that disease is "imagination." But it does teach that the causes of disease are mental. It also teaches that the chief causes of disease are fear, ignorance, and sin. It is, therefore, our thought that must be reformed, if we would gain health and happiness. It is not true that Christian Science is pantheistic. It teaches in accordance with the Bible that God is Spirit, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, and that the real man is created in His image and likeness. Jesus said, "That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." It is spiritual man who is indestructible and eternal. If one will really study Christian Science one will find that it is in no point at variance with the teachings of Jesus.
