My first reading of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, many years ago, was undertaken, not as a search for physical healing or religious teaching, but to gratify a desire to read a much talked-of book. After I had read it in the manner one reads a book under such circumstances, my desire to understand the meaning of Science and Health was awakened, and each day at some time, usually late at night, a few paragraphs were read, with the result that gradually sleeplessness left me. This was not then attributed to Christian Science, as I did not know its teaching, had never heard of the Bible Lessons in the Christian Science Quarterly, and knew of only one or two persons who were in any way interested in the study of this great truth. It was several years later that I met a practitioner, a sincere and consecrated student whose spiritual counsel speeded my progress, and the study of the Lesson-Sermons since has proved an unfailing aid in obtaining guidance in daily affairs, in spiritual growth and understanding.

Numerous healings have come to me and also to others through my slight understanding of the truth, for which I am deeply grateful. I have been freed from severe periodic headaches, and through the loving help of a practitioner and attack of ptomaine poisoning was overcome in one day. I have witnessed many other healings of diseases, mental, moral, and physical, including the healing of a fractured knee, and my heart is filled with thankfulness for them; but the greatest healing seen and felt is the reformation of the thinking which goes on, and the growth in the understanding of God and His image, man.

My desire is so to demonstrate this truth in my daily life as to be worthy to be called a Christian Scientist, and to be a loyal follower of our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who discovered this great truth and made its practice available in our own time.
