I am happy to testify to the great power of Truth, and sincerely believe that great good is obtained from the continuous study of the Bible, of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and also of our Leader's other writings.
In the early part of August, 1927, I was taken to a hospital in the city of Chicago to receive treatment for an infected ankle bone resulting from an accident. The inflection was termed "osteomyelitis" by the physicians. After suffering agonizing pain for weeks and being given all kinds of medicine and also light ray treatments with no relief, I finally reached out for Christian Science to see what it could do for me, and at my request Christian Science treatment was begun. About this time the doctor who was attending me decided to put my foot in a plaster cast, and there it was kept for six weeks. The cast was then removed and X-ray pictures were taken. After reviewing the plates and holding a consultation, the physicians and surgeons of the hospital staff decided that it would be best to amputate the foot, their explanation being that I would have no further use of it.
That very day I left the hospital, using crutches to assist me in walking. Two weeks later I put away the crutches and used a cane, very much to the amazement of the doctor who had attended me; and within thirty days I walked with out any assistance whatsoever.
