Since I have known Christian Science I have received...
Since I have known Christian Science I have received great blessings, both physical and mental. Through Christian Science treatment I have been healed of pain in the shoulders and have lost the habit of smoking.
Near the end of February, 1929, I was the victim of a serious accident. My car, carrying four people, was upset while making a dangerous turn at a high speed, and we were thrown to the ground. The people who accompanied me got up uninjured, but I remained pinned under the car. Witnesses of the accident extricated me and stated that I was seriously wounded. Fragments of glass had made a deep cut on the left side of the neck. The wound extended from the carotid artery to the back of the ear and caused a great loss of blood. A friend, who was a Christian Scientist, understanding the gravity of the situation, telephoned immediately to a practitioner to ask for help; thus scientific work was undertaken at once. The physician obtained by the witnesses of the accident judged my condition very serious, even desperate and telephoned to a hospital for an ambulance to come for me. The hospital's surgeon, finding me too weak to undergo an operation, ordered a temporary dressing.
In the night, about three o'clock, I awoke from an unconscious state, and my wife gently told me that God was my Life. At that moment I felt the omnipresence of Love and thanked God With all my heart. From that time my thought became clear; and although given up by the doctors, I experienced neither pain nor fever during the three weeks I stayed at the hospital. The wound remained serious; for, as the physicians stated, the facial nerve and the salivary gland had been cut, and a great deal of blood lost. Blood formed again, however, without the help of transfusion. I am now in perfect health, and can gratefully say that I am a living witness of the Love which heals.
