Spiritual Thought, the Essence of Right Activity

Through the Science of Christianity an awakening world is finding the essential verity that "now are we the sons of God," and that we live, move, and have our true being in the realm of Spirit. This realm is not an uncertain future state; it here and now constitutes the habitation of our divinely substantial and joyous being.

The value and power of thought are well defined by Mrs Eddy in her sermon "The People's Idea of God, its Effect on Health and Christianity." On page 10 she says: "Thought is the essence of an act, and the stronger element of action; even as steam is more powerful than water, simply because it is more ethereal. Essences are refinements that lose some materiality; and as we struggle through the cold night of physics, matter will become vague, and melt into nothing under the microscope of Mind." How important, then, to realize the value of even one right thought, and make use of its power and scope! Right thinking is the very essence of Christian Science, bringing true health and wholeness. It partakes of the very nature of Soul, wherein the beauty of true being abides and is forever unfolding. This unfolding reveals man, Mind's intelligent infinite idea, perfect in expression, sound in ability, radiant in health, alert in activity, pure in affection, enduring in spontaneity, and always beautiful!

Christ Jesus, through his divinely natural spiritual thoughts, demonstrated the healing and saving activity of divine Love. His spirituality as the Way-shower was the essence of his spiritual activities. He has taught us to discern the kingdom of heaven within us, whereby false material mentality vanishes and spiritual thoughts appear. Material crudity lessens as higher spiritual concepts appear; human want awakens to a diviner satisfaction; unkind criticism melts away; and touching tenderness emerges, until step by step nothing is left to becloud the original spiritual manhood and womanhood of Mind's creating. Contemplating man's real existence at the standpoint of his original perfection makes one realize what true selfhood already divinely is and eternally will be, since, as Mrs. Eddy tells us, "man is the offspring, not of the lowest, but of the highest qualities of Mind" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 265). These qualites are spiritual and ever present. By understanding this, human thought entertains a higher concept of being, which is expressed in health, in progress, in purity, in wisdom, and in love. These are spiritual man's natural, useful, unlimited possessions.
