A young man attending a Sunday morning service in a ...
A young man attending a Sunday morning service in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, made this remark: "I wonder what so many men find in that service!" This incident recalled many blessings, and particularly a healing I received several years ago. While in the East I became very ill; I lost my hearing, and my ears were discharging. A telegram was sent to a Christian Science practitioner in Boston asking for help. Although I was unable to leave the hotel without extreme agony, Pullman reservations were secured for me. When I tried to board the train for home, the conductor at first refused to admit me, saying I was too sick to travel three days. However, the trip was made safely.
I continued to get worse, and lost weight so rapidly that my condition became alarming. My mouth and jaw were so sore I at last decided to see a dentist, who was a Christian Scientist. He advised me to have an X-ray photograph taken. This was done, and after it was developed a specialist told the dentist I had mastoiditis, and advised an immediate operation. When the dentist notified me of the result, I at once telegraphed to the practitioner. That day all sense of fear disappeared, and I slept for the first time in two weeks. The discharge abated, and I was able to eat solid food, whereas before I had been having only liquids. My hearing was restored, and my healing is complete. I rejoice for the help received through the aid of the practitioner. There never was any doubt of the outcome, even though the physical evidence at first seemed very real.
During the war, while I was serving as an officer in charge of an aviation testing field, many healings were received, and wonderful protection was experienced through what seemed miraculous escapes. With the help of my wife, I was also healed in a few hours of a very severe case of influenza. After the army doctor had examined me, he gave full credit to Christian Science.
