In a talk on the religious persecutions in Russia, as reported...

De Gooi-en Eemlander

In a talk on the religious persecutions in Russia, as reported in De Gooi-en Eemlander of April 4, I read the following passage: "Here the speaker pointed out the contrast between conscious Christendom and the conscious anti-Christendom which one observes to-day, especially among the new generation. The speaker thereafter mentioned the names of some modern 'religions,' as theosophy, astrology, Christian Science, and others." From the wording of that sentence your readers, in so far as they do not know better already, must unavoidably get the impression that Christian Science preaches a "conscious anti-Christendom."

According to the Manual of The Mother Church, in Boston, Massachusetts, U. S. A. (p. 17), the purpose of this church is "to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing." Its efficacy and methods, not the least in the domain of pure Christian healing, are known and recognized throughout the world. In Holland the Christian Science church at The Hague has been recognized as a church in the privileged sense of the law. The same is the case in England and in the United States. Surely, one may not try to arrest successfully intolerance and abuse of others' religious feelings while committing the same in one's own country.
