In deep gratitude for the change which Christian Science...
In deep gratitude for the change which Christian Science has wrought in my life I am writing this testimony, in the hope that it will bless others, especially mothers.
When I came into the world I was normal in every way, but a short time prior to my birth my mother had lost an infant daughter, so her anxiety for me was very great. Soon those fears were manifested in me, in extreme frailty. From then on I lived a sheltered, guarded life. When school age was reached, rheumatism, nausea, and fainting spells added their weight of woe. During my teens other conditions developed, including heart trouble, ulcers of the stomach, rheumatic abscesses, and neuritis. The diets imposed by physicians were so rigid that I tasted few vegetables and no fruits until I became a student of Christian Science. Raw eggs in liquor, tonics, and medicines were practically the only food I had for the last eight years of the experience.
I loved the Bible and spent many hours while confined to bed in studying it. In a time of dire need a new friend brought me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and a current Christian Science Quarterly. Previously I had been most antagonistic to Christian Science, but during my friend's loving talk I was healed of that false sense and promised obedience if she would call a practitioner to aid me. My healing was complete in one week, and in three months I had gained thirty pounds. How truly that proved what our Leader says (Science and Health, p. 493): "Disease is an experience of so-called mortal mind. It is fear made manifest on the body."
