My attention was called to Christian Science by the marvelous healing of my sister after she was pronounced dying of tuberculosis. I nursed her through this last stage, and saw the wonderful new birth take place through the application of Christian Science, by our own study and with the help of a dear practitioner. I was deeply impressed with this healing, but little thought I needed Christian Science. However, I continued an earnest study of the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly and gave loving encouragement to my sister.

This healing surely established me in Christian Science. In a short time, however, error tried to make me believe I had lost all happiness, home, and everything that seemed to be necessary for my progress. I quickly turned to the same practitioner in my sorrow and loss; and it was not many years before I could see that there never could be in reality a loss of happiness, but only the loss of a wrong sense, to be replaced by the right sense of home and happiness.

I want to tell of the healing our son experienced. At the time for him to take swimming lessons in the school, I received a notice from the school doctor saying he was in need of an operation, without which he would be excluded from the privilege of the swimming pool. I went to the doctor on the board of health and told him that I was a Christian Scientist and wished to handle the case, and asked permission for the child to enter the pool. I said I would cooperate with them in every right way. The doctor said, "Well! this is a case for the knife and there is no other way out of it; however, I will give you two months; so report at that time." I thanked him and went my way rejoicing. Our son and I daily studied the Bible and applied the truth as we understood it. The one verse of the Bible that seemed to give us the most help was the twelfth verse in the fourth chapter of Hebrews, "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." At the end of the two months the work was so nearly completed that the health doctor said, "You may have one more month." At the end of the third month the work was complete. The doctor truly was amazed to think this had taken place without the aid of a knife. We rejoiced over this healing. I also greatly rejoiced over the spiritual healing, for to me it was the overcoming of a great sense of limitation.
