At the age of fifty-five I had a nervous breakdown
At the age of fifty-five I had a nervous breakdown. As I lay in bed, racked with pain, my wife brought me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and suggested that I read it. She also said she could telegraph to Sydney (fifteen hundred and forty-seven miles away by rail) for absent treatment. I gave my consent and commenced to read the book. Sometime later I told her that I liked the book and could believe its teachings. I went to sleep and awoke late on the following morning free from pain; so I dressed and went to my office. From that day to the present time the unfoldment has been glorious. Demonstration has followed demonstration. My wife and our three sons are ardent students, and follow the dictates of Christian Science with satisfying results. Alcohol was easy for me to give up, but it was not so easy with tobacco. I had been a constant smoker since eighteen years of age, and was a slave to the habit, smoking excessively.
I am indeed grateful to God, and to Mrs. Eddy for showing me how to live. My constant endeavor is to reflect God worthily as His child should. —Walter Hunt, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
I wish to confirm my husband's testimony. Science and Health was sent to me about five years ago by my son. I had been a sufferer from neuritis for over twenty years. After receiving the book I had an attack. I commenced reading the book, and the pain ceased. Since then I have been able to overcome the difficulty, and I feel sure that it has now disappeared entirely, since I have not had any symptoms of it for the past two or three years.
