The Bible—Our Business Guide
There are certain daily, weekly, and monthly periodicals which abound in attractive appeals to improve one's financial condition through a course of study tending toward the development of one's personality and the understanding of the so-called power of mental suggestion. Some of these appeals, however, go no farther than to recommend a study of business fundamentals and the application of economic laws to problems of production and distribution; and the alert are quick to separate these from advertisements dealing with the so-called power of the human will.
Those who have in any degree apprehended the great truths of Christian Science are quick to understand the unreliability of a career built on foundations other than upon the Rock, Christ. In proportion as we depend upon human will and human planning, and attempt to control the desires and movements of others through the use of suggestion, and for the advancement of selfish interests, we are heaping up for ourselves "wrath against the day of wrath," and adding to the confusion and strife prevalent in the business world.
The Holy Bible, that great treasure house of spiritual truth, gives us the true basis for business; and although the modes and methods of business have undergone great changes since its rules for service were first laid down, these rules are none the less applicable to our business problems of to-day; and to the extent that we understand and apply them, they bring order out of chaos and we are enabled to benefit and serve all with whom we come in daily business contact.
