Progress
It is the wish of every earnest student of Christian Science to make rapid progress in his journey heavenward. As our concept of God is enlarged and purified we progress; and this truer sense of God, good, is made possibly only as we become humble, meek, and obedient to God's law. Childlikeness is an essential quality; and as we cultivate this quality the truth unfolds to our consciousness. God, divine Love, is ever drawing us closer to Himself. Doing the thing at hand to the best of our ability, and to the glory of our Father-Mother God, brings about the unfoldment in thought and deed of the next progressive step.
To the sincere student of Christian Science there is no such thing as standing still. There are always new demands being made upon him, but none that he is not able to fulfill. If he is sincerely working out his salvation according to the teachings of Christian Science, he has the assurance that God's law demands of him only what his present understanding can accomplish.
In order to let the truth unfold in our thought, we must love our neighbor as ourselves. To love those who are near and dear to us is easy; but we have to reflect love regardless of another's attitude. We can never know the joy of true gratitude without learning how to love our fellow-men; for gratitude is allied to love. In order to do the healing work, at Christ Jesus commanded, we must first learn to love and to be grateful when seeming problems compel us to turn more unreservedly to God. Thus shall we prove our problems to be stepping-stones to a greater understanding of God's law.
