From childhood I had been taught to revere the Bible, and early in life I joined an orthodox church. I am grateful for all that I learned of good in my discipleship there, but there came a time when I questioned more deeply into the Gospels, and pondered Jesus' admonition to his followers as given in the seventeenth and eighteenth verses of the sixteenth chapter of Mark. Earnest Christians assured me that those commands and assurances were only for the Master's immediate followers. During all this time I heard but one favorable comment upon Christian Science, and none favorable concerning Mrs. Eddy, and so felt that the subject of Christian Science was unworthy even of an investigation, although I criticized it freely.
Then I became the wife of a Christian Scientist. During our acquaintance he had often mentioned the healing work of Christian Science. I was greatly in need of physical healing, being the victim of a so-called incurable malady; but my conscience forbade my accepting healing unless I could feel certain Christian Science was not of the evil one. However, I began reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and various slight ailments dropped away without my notice. I felt that I had become stronger than before. My faith in medicine vanished, but I still knew so little of Christian Science that at the birth of our first child I felt as if I had no God at hand. Then, when the babe was four days old and I seemed entering the death valley, there came an earnest, consecrated Christian Scientist; and through her clear understanding and Love-filled consciousness I was raised to health and strength in a very short time. The truth about God, Mind, Life, Principle, that she presented to me so clearly, then placed me in a position to demonstrate my way in Science. She remained with me until she saw me able to meet my problems alone, my feet being safely planted in the straight and narrow way.
Since then many ills have been met and mastered, such as pneumonia, measles, nervousness, bumps, bruises, accidents, and many others. Supply has been beautifully demonstrated, contagion rendered powerless, and the claim of incurability annulled. Words are inadequate to express all my gratitude for what Truth as revealed in Christian Science has done and is doing for me and mine. I shall try to let my life attest my sincerity.
