I turned to Christian Science only as a last resort
I turned to Christian Science only as a last resort. I had had typhoid fever the previous summer and was still suffering from bad nerves, insomnia, indigestion, and other ills as a result. As I had never been very strong, the outlook was discouraging. By the end of the spring I was possessed of an overwhelming sense of fear that threatened to prostrate me. My physician told me that if I would stop being afraid I would be all right; but, as everyone knows, mortal mind does not know how to stop being afraid of its fears. I had known of Christian Science for some time, but a remark of one in whose opinion I had great faith had prejudiced me against it. Now, however, I procured some literature.
The healing effect of the study began at once. That was ten years ago. I have gained marvelously in physical strength and endurance since learning that God, Spirit, is my Life. Eight years ago I put aside glasses after being told by a specialist that I would doubtless need a change to stronger lenses every six months. I am most grateful to say that I have used my eyes more since not depending on glasses, and without the trouble previously experienced. I have had many healings, some instantaneous, through the application of this potent truth which our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, revealed.
At the time of the birth of our little one, when it seemed impossible for him to be born and the attending physician thought I was passing on, a great appeal was made to divine Love for the realization of His protecting presence and power. Help came immediately, and the experience of that realization of the actuality of His spiritual presence will ever be an inspiration to me. I know, as our Leader tells us on page 494 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," that "divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." I want to express my gratitude for the blessings that this truth has brought to me and mine. I also want to express gratitude for the loving help of practitioners when problems have seemed beyond my own understanding. I know that the daily study and application of this Science leads onward and upward, even to Life eternal.
