[Written for the Sentinel]

Arise, Shine

What ails thee, O daughter of Zion fair,
That darkness covers thy face?
Hear the hymns of the heavens that sing in the air,
And join in the chorus of praise.

Shake off now the dust of pity and woe,
And loose the bands of thy fear;
Rise anew in thy strength; fear no longer the foe:
Thy help and salvation are near.

Put on thy festival garments of mirth,
Array thyself as the days;
Wear thy heavenly robes for this feast of the earth,
And shine in the heavenly rays.

For a mighty prince has entered the world;
With wonderful gifts he came.
Go to meet him! Arise! Have thy banners unfurled,
And trusting act in his name!
