[Written for the Sentinel]

Inspiration

"The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: and if children, then heirs; of God, and joint-heirs with Christ."

To-Day a wondrous thought was born within my heart:
My heavenly Father sees me as His own,
In all the perfectness of His own image bright!
I feel the urge of this divinity,
As plant within the darkness of the earth
Reaches above,
Drawn by the impelling power of the light.

Dear God, divine,
The flame within me brighter grows;
I must arise and shine;
And rising,
I must let Thy healing power flow out
To those in need,
Reflecting the divinity of God
In Christly deed;
Seeing my fellow-man
Only according to Thy perfect plan.
So must each rise above beliefs of sense,
And find himself in Love's omnipotence,
Joint-heir with Christ and with the gospel shod,
A radiant and blessed son of God.

To help men find this harmony of heaven,
To point the way—could lovelier task be given?
