Daily Demonstration

The traveler in an unfamiliar country wakens each morning with expectation of varied experiences throughout the day. New scenes will unfold as day advances; and with eagerness he rises to meet the richness and beauty that the hours will bring forth.

One who journeys in the land of Christian Science should approach each day with even greater joy, for the good that progressively unfolds to the receptive thought far exceeds visible grandeur. Yet it sometimes happens that such expectation seems to be lacking. Long struggle with a problem may appear to claim our days; and as we waken, doubt and depression may attempt to cloud the glad anticipation with which each morning should be greeted.

A story is told of a courtier who, when a guard of honor was drawn up to greet the king, rushed in front of his sovereign and received the obeisance intended for royalty. How like the effrontery of mortal mind! With what rapidity does it sometimes claim to present to the waking thought the arguments of material thinking, thus directing attention to itself, though divine Mind is ever present, and focusing thought upon its own discords when "the beauty of holiness" should be contemplated! To God alone belong all our thoughts, thoughts of gratitude, obedience, love, and of acknowledged dependence on Him for guidance, support, activity. As we learn to turn to Mind early and continuously, so excluding all erroneous suggestions, we shall find the answer to our desire to "awake, with thy likeness," and consciousness will be spontaneously receptive to divine ideas.
