The Lectures
Introductions to Lectures
Indianapolis, Indiana (Fourth Church).
Lecturer: Salem Andrew Hart; introduced by Lloyd Reich, who said:—
To illustrate the search men are making these days for spiritual understanding, a bit of my own experience may be helpful. To gain some true knowledge of this spiritual source and my relationship to it was my underlying purpose when at the age of seventeen years I entered the schoolroom for the first time. At this age I could neither read nor write. An unsatisfied spiritual hunger impelled me to go onward and upward through the grades, the high school, the college, and into the theological seminary. During the ten years that I preached the gospel I accepted both good and evil, God and the devil, as real; and for that reason I was always, more or less, in a state of confusion, as were the people to whom I preached. In this state of confusion, there developed what medical doctors call an incurable disease. Just when the struggle seemed hopeless there came to me the sweet message of Christian Science with its healing fountain of spiritual waters. I have found during my experience in Christian Science that God has set before me "an open door, and no man can shut it."
