Deity is Not Outlined
A COMMON error which seeks to prevent our demonstration of the power of Truth, as taught in Christian Science, is the tendency to outline the good which we are seeking—to anticipate the time and manner of its coming, and its extent; or else to conclude that because one particular statement from the Bible or Mrs. Eddy's writings has met a certain need, we need only continue to repeat this statement and the further good hoped for will thereby be attained.
It is true that any one of the statements contained in our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, being a declaration of Truth, is able to meet our emergencies; but these declarations are generally used as stepping-stones to clear realization. Otherwise, we should be using these words as formulas, thus retarding and limiting our progress in the understanding of Truth which our Leader has elucidated for mankind. It would do one little good to know that three times three is nine if he refused to consider the fact that two times two is four, or if he did not attempt to demonstrate the law of multiplication in other and greater problems.
There must be prayerful and constant effort to obtain the true solution to each fresh problem. Wrong thoughts must be uncovered and uprooted through the study and application of the truths taught in Christian Science so that, when the false belief is eradicated, there is room for the truth in our thinking. Then some statement which we have hitherto overlooked, or which has not been clear to us, becomes illumined by the light of Truth and the healing follows—joyous, sweetly reassuring and satisfying—the Sabbath rest from the labor!
