After I came into Christian Science, many times mortal...
After I came into Christian Science, many times mortal mind would say, Just what would you do if something came upon you, and you were alone in your home and unable to telephone for help? I too can say with Job, "The thing which I greatly feared is come upon me."
While pouring oxalic acid crystals from one receptacle into another, some of them were spilled and a number of them entered my eyes. I do not believe fear ever tried to handle me as it did at this time. The mental picture seemed very real, knowing as I did the action of this acid. Here was the testing time: I had to stand alone with God. I immediately declared God's omnipotence, His omnipresence, His allness. Fear seemed to cry the louder. Then I repeated aloud "the scientific statement of being" as given by Mrs. Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 468) over and over again. Finally, I felt such a sense of peace that I knew the demonstration was made — there was no inflammation, irritation, or pain.
I cannot express enough gratitude for this demonstration; also for the healing of tonsillitis, neuritis, influenza, and many other ills. I have come to realize very clearly the truth of our Leader's statement (ibid., p. 183): "Obedience to Truth gives man power and strength. Submission to error superinduces loss of power."
