The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

Brockton, Massachusetts (First Church).

Lecturer: John Ellis Sedman; introduced by Mrs. Susan Tenney McKay, who said:—

The Psalmist said, "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" Before learning of Christian Science I believed salvation applied only to sin; but in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy defines "salvation" as follows (p. 593): "Life, Truth, and Love understood and demonstrated as supreme over all; sin, sickness, and death destroyed." When Christian Science was presented to me I had been struggling for years with a disease which had been pronounced incurable. The fact that I have been permanently healed in Christian Science proves to me beyond doubt that God's salvation does apply to sickness as well as to sin. I can say with the Psalmist: "Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. . . . Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases."
