I wish to express my gratitude for the wonderful healing...
I wish to express my gratitude for the wonderful healing of my little daughter nearly six years ago, and hope that our experience will encourage someone else who has need of Christian Science and little or no knowledge of it. She was taken sick, suddenly and severely, with an infection that began in the mastoid, but which did not yield to the most skillful surgery and blood transfusions, but penetrated deeper into the head, necessitating the scraping of part of the outer covering of the brain. The accompanying symptoms were most alarming, and her case seemed hopeless. A relative, who is a Christian Scientist, came to the hospital frequently, but knowing my antagonism to what I thought Christian Science to be, he said nothing until he saw that there was no hope from material methods. As my father is a physician and I had been raised with the greatest faith in material healing, I scorned Science help even then; but my dear mother insisted that I try it, and as a result countless blessings have since come to my family and me.
We asked for Christian Science treatments for the child, and following the very first treatment her temperature dropped nearly to normal. The improvement was constant from that day, so that in a comparatively short time I was able to take her from the hospital to the home of these Christian Science relatives. The pain and fever were ended from the first night after leaving the hospital. She was not in bed another day, although she had been there for two months; and in eleven days from the time she left the hospital she was in school. She had no convalescence. Her head healed rapidly, and she has never been so well as since then. Her eyes had become badly crossed, and one eye paralyzed, supposedly as a result of the infection. In just two weeks the paralyzed eye moved as easily as ever. The doctor's verdict had been that nothing could be done for it. Very soon afterward both eyes were perfectly straight. This wonderful healing was proof to me that Christian Science is of God. Blind as I was, I realized that only the right understanding of God, of His presence and power and love, could produce such seemingly miraculous results.
Since then my husband has been freed by Christian Science from sciatic rheumatism, for which he had consulted seven doctors, receiving no help; also from acute attacks of sinus trouble. Two years ago when I received word of the sudden passing on of my mother, Christian Science was truly proved to be the Comforter. I do not know what we would have done without it. Although only a beginner, I have already been freed from fear in many forms. I am more grateful than I can express that we were led into Christian Science, grateful for its Discoverer and Founder, Mary Baker Eddy, grateful for the privilege of church membership and for the Sunday school. And no expression of gratitude would be complete without mention of the untiring help of the practitioner who has worked for us when our needs have been great and our understanding small.—(Mrs.) Lucile B. Holgren, Crystal Bay, Minnesota.
