About ten or eleven years ago I was led to the study of Christian Science through the healing of friends, one of whom introduced me to a practitioner; and it was the beginning of a new life for me. For several years I had an internal ailment which was called incurable, and the fear of death was constantly in my thought; but I had given up all faith in doctors and medicines, and thought that if I could only be free from pain I would be resigned to what I thought was the will of God. Then another disease manifested itself, ulcers in my eyes; and I was terror stricken, as I had an aunt and an uncle who had gone blind after middle age. The drops and salves which were put in my eyes were worse than useless, also the glasses I had worn for ten years. Without the least expectation of being healed, as I did not know what Christian Science treatment was, I went with my friend to the practitioner's home. She received us so kindly, and listened so patiently to my recital of woe, that I felt assured of comfort if not of healing.

After my friend had retired to her own home I asked the practitioner if she thought my eyes could be healed so that I could read and sew again, and she said: "The Bible tells us all things are possible to God. He is the great Physician, and an ever present help." She brought the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the textbook of Christian Science, by Mary Baker Eddy, said she would read the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, and asked me to take off my glasses and read part of it with her; but I told her I could not read one word as the letters were blurred. So she read it for me, and I felt so strengthened that it seemed as if a heavy burden had been taken from me. I went home with a light heart, full of faith that Christian Science would heal me. The following week I called again, and after a few inquiries the practitioner again gave me a part of the Lesson-Sermon to read, and to my amazement I could read a few words without glasses. I was overjoyed, as I knew that it was the power of God through the prayer of faith that had wrought the miracle. I have never worn glasses since. My eyes were healed after a few more treatments; also the internal trouble, a liver disorder of long standing, bilious headaches that kept me in bed for days at a time, tonsillitis which appeared every winter, and nervousness which deprived me of sleep at night except for a few hours. Besides these physical healings for which I am truly grateful, I was healed of false theological beliefs, reliance on materia medica (I have never tasted or used medicine since), and the fear of contagion, with many other mental errors to which I was long a victim. My faith was tested a little later when I met with an accident which ordinarily might have proved fatal, but by declaring that God was my life, and holding to that thought, I was rescued and later was able to call the practitioner, who lovingly helped me until all trace of the injury was gone.

Science and Health has taught me how to read and love the Bible and to understand the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly; also the meaning of true prayer, which is transforming my daily life and bringing me nearer the Life which is God. Mrs. Eddy says on page 2 of Science and Health, "The desire which goes forth hungering after righteousness is blessed of our Father, and it does not return unto us void." My desire for a better life has been rewarded by learning through Christian Science that I have a place in God's great love, and that by obedience and perseverance I may realize my sonship with the Father through Christ Jesus, our Redeemer and Way-shower. I am grateful to God, the ever loving Father-Mother, and to Mrs. Eddy, that wonderful woman whose consecrated life of toil and sacrifice has made it possible for all humanity to lay down their burdens and come into their God-given heritage of spiritual peace, which cannot be lost or taken from them. I am indeed grateful for all that Christian Science is doing for the whole world.— (Mrs.) Elizabeth J. Morrison, Braintree, Massachusetts.
