I became interested in Christian Science through reading...

I became interested in Christian Science through reading the literature placed by a loving little Christian Science Society in a small railroad station where I was required to wait from one to three hours for a freight train each month, as I am a traveling man. I very soon recognized the truth set forth in the articles and testimonies of healing given in The Christian Science Journal and Christian Science Sentinel. I also realized the cleanness and cheerfulness of the news in The Christian Science Monitor, and my desire to know more of this wonderful teaching was aroused. Upon voicing this desire to a friend, who I did not know at the time was a Scientist, I was promptly and lovingly given light on the subject. At this time the taste and desire for tobacco entirely left me.

I immediately took up the study of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which naturally caused me to turn to the Bible. I had had no connection with the Bible, outside of that required in my Masonic work, since I was a lad of twelve, as my parents were not church people. In less than five months' study of Christian Science I found myself healed of a double hernia (rupture) and of bowel trouble of many years' standing. Please note that I was seeking "first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness," not healing, and had no human help outside of our textbook and other authorized Christian Science literature.

Since these healings took place, over eight years ago, there has been no return of the symptoms of the former physical ills or of the desire for tobacco; and I can honestly state that when I have faithfully applied the teachings of our beloved Master, Christ Jesus, as explained by our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, to my physical, personal, or business inharmonies, I have never found Christian Science to fail; and the victories over mortal sense testimony have been many.
