About fourteen years ago I was rather annoyed at my dear mother's desire for me to learn something of Christian Science because I was crippled and bowed together like the woman in the Bible, and could in no wise lift myself up. I "had suffered many things of many physicians," but was not healed, though they surely did their best according to their understanding. I was antagonistic to what I thought Christian Science to be, without having the slightest understanding of it. But one night when I simply could not stand one degree more of pain, I asked that a practitioner be called, saying I must have it if there was anything in it. How ashamed I have been since, when I have thought that we will not come to our heavenly Father, our real Father-Mother God, until driven like the prodigal!
The practitioner could not come to me, but said she would treat me and I could come to her the next day. I remember she was told, "Oh! she cannot; she is ill in bed." But she answered, so lovingly, "Yes, she can." And I did! It was a marvel to me; and from that day I have been hungry for Christian Science. I have been healed, just by reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, of fallen arches, bad headaches, severe burns, and a cyst on my forehead; and through seeing myself as God's perfect child I am overcoming criticism and bad temper.
I am grateful to the loving practitioner who gave me some correct understanding of Science, and who taught me that I should study to understand the Bible; to Christ Jesus also; and to Mrs. Eddy, who did so much for mankind. No words can express my gratitude, not merely for the physical healings, but for the better understanding of God and man brought to light by our beloved Leader's works. My gratitude can be shown only by trying each day to learn and practice more and still more of the truth that heals and saves. If my need is not always met promptly, I know it is not Christian Science that is wrong, but error in me, and that I must get busy and weed it out so that God's law can operate.—(Mrs.)Georgia E. Chapin, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
