Five years ago a copy of the Christian Science textbook...
Five years ago a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was presented to me. We did not know very much about Christian Science, and had never heard anything very favorable about it; so we did not read the book for a long time. One day I thought I would investigate, and the first thing I read so impressed me that I felt at peace—as though I had left a place of danger and stepped into safety. I knelt down and said, "God, I am coming to you for a sign like Gideon; if this religion is right, show me by removing an ill I have had for many years." And it was instantly removed; also, the desire for medicine was taken away at the same time. How could I doubt any longer—I who had only touched the hem of Christ's garment? Three days after, I was healed of chronic constipation. By further reading the textbook, I was healed of varicose veins; and the desire for coffee and tea was taken away. By repeating "the scientific statement of being," on page 468 of Science and Health, and the definition of "God" on page 587 of the same book, I have warded off influenza, neuralgia, toothache, lameness, and many other ills.
I have never had the pleasure of meeting any Christian Science practitioners, but have derived all these blessings mentioned above by reading the Bible and the textbook together with the Quarterly Lesson-Sermons, the Journals and Sentinels, and some Monitors. The testimonies have been a great help to me. How I thank God for this truth, and for the joy of understanding the Bible! I thank God also for Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and for the inspiration which enabled Mrs. Eddy to give Science and Health to the world.—(Mrs.)Nellie Hamilton, Alexander, Arkansas.
