Before Christian Science came to me I read and loved...

Before Christian Science came to me I read and loved the Bible very much, but when trouble and trials faced me I could not apply my understanding and gain the freedom for which I longed. At a time when it seemed so dark on every side that I could not see a ray of light, I found man's extremity to be God's opportunity. Light and freedom came through reading the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. When I think of the first few weeks of study of this blessed book, of the revelation of the Christ, Truth, which came to me, I humbly and meekly bow before this great Comforter promised by Christ Jesus.

Through this study came health where sickness had been, supply instead of lack, and sorrow was turned into joy as one cloud after another disappeared. I was freed from the need of wearing glasses when I realized that sight is spiritual. On one occasion my arm was struck with great force by an elevator, and for an instant I seemed to be losing consciousness; but God was with me and the words of Mrs. Eddy's poem (Poems, p. 14), "Feed My Sheep," came to me. A wave of fear came over me when I felt my arm, but I quickly put it out of thought by realizing the omnipresence and omnipotence of God. This brought such a comforting realization of the presence of God that I was instantly freed from the sense of pain and sickness. Five minutes from the time of the accident I was about my duties again, perfectly free; and although many people were near, no one knew what had happened.

My family have been healed of many physical ailments, and we are very grateful. Words are of little avail to express my gratitude for our Leader, who was so pure in heart that she was able to bring to light the great truths of Christian Science.—(Mrs.) Elsie Dudley Page, Newburyport, Massachusetts.
