I submit this testimony with the desire to help anyone who may find difficulty in reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy; for many have been healed physically, mentally, and morally by just reading this book, or hearing it read.

Failing, after many days, to persuade a young student of the fallacy of Christian Science, I asked him to lend me the textbook and promised to read it. I found it very tiring to read, and was constantly disagreeing with it, but silently, because I had promised myself not to voice an opinion until I had read the entire book. It seemed such hard labor that after a few days all I could manage was one page daily. But one day I read many pages with keen interest and said, "I believe this is true, and my previous opinions quite wrong." A few days later, when I was reaching for my glasses, which I used to relieve my eyes from pain or strain when reading or writing for more than a few minutes, my wife remarked that I ought to take more care of my eyes. I replaced the glasses and thought of what I had been reading. I had read about three quarters of the textbook and reasoned that if Christian Science could heal, it could heal my eyes. To my amazement I was instantly healed. A few months later I easily passed an official and exacting eyesight test. This startled me so much that I read nothing but Christian Science literature at every opportunity, to find out how I had been healed.

Each year has brought greater opportunity for study, until now I spend many hours daily studying the Scriptures and all the authorized Christian Science literature, and I am learning step by step how to put the result of this study into practical everyday experience, with a consequent increase in joy, health, and harmony. I have never used glasses since the aforementioned healing. This healing was quickly followed by many others. All desire for alcohol left me. I was healed in a few days of a throat affection that made even talking painful, a weak back, a nasal trouble that had caused intermittent suffering for about twenty years, toothache, indigestion, periodical constipation, headaches, uncontrolled temper. Influenza was completely healed in three days with the loving help of a practitioner. During these three days my duties compelled me to be in the open air in a freezing temperature for eight hours daily. Two previous attacks, before I knew of Christian Science, had lasted about six weeks each time and left me very weak. I experienced also an almost instantaneous healing of a torn finger and finger nail. In three months I was healed of excessive smoking. I had consumed an ounce of tobacco in a pipe daily, besides several cigarettes. This struggle with tobacco was sometimes very fierce, and many times I was discouraged; but as our Leader writes in our textbook (p. 462), "Self-denial, sincerity, Christianity, and persistence alone win the prize, as they usually do in every department of life."
