After my mother passed on, in 1912, I realized that happiness...

After my mother passed on, in 1912, I realized that happiness did not depend on material relationships or surroundings. While my parents were not members of any church, I gained from them an assurance that there was the truth about God and man to be known. I read religious literature and attended the different churches for some months, when one day I realized that I was applying the truth grasped from reading some Christian Science Sentinels which had been given me. I instantly realized that if this was what I was applying, with results, it must be that for which I had been searching. Since that day Christian Science has met my every need in home, social, and business life.

While reading "Science and Health with Key to Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I was healed of frequent severe sick headaches from which I had suffered since childhood, and which were believed to be hereditary. These have tried to present themselves four times since, but each time they have been instantly met with the realization of the truth. One evening, after enjoying a plunge party at a natatorium, my hair was drawn by the suction of cold air into a hair-drying machine and wound round revolving bolts, tearing my scalp both at the forehead and about three inches at the back. The help of a practitioner was called for, and by the time my hair was gotten out of the dryer, my strength had returned; and about ten minutes later the bleeding, which had been profuse, stopped. A member of the party who was a Christian Scientist took me to her home; and with the exception of the scalp being somewhat loose for about a week, the healing took place on the night of the accident. I washed my hair the next morning and went to my office at noon. My employer thought it was a case of will-power and told me he thought Science was all right, but that stitches should have been taken. I assured him that the practitioner had not objected to this, but that I was sure all things were possible to God; and so it proved. He congratulated me on what he called my faith in God, and added that his mother, after being confined to a wheel chair for three years on account of ankylosed joints, turned to Christian Science and was healed. This, coming from one who was not a Christian Scientist, strengthened me. By relying on divine intellegence and strength I was able to do my entire day's work that afternoon. That one halfday is the only time I have not been able to be about my daily duties since taking up the study of Christian Science, although I have been healed of influenza, ptomaine poisoning, colds, and other ills.

Outstanding is my gratitude for the knowledge and proofs of the omnipresence of divine intelligence.
