"Thy will be done"

Christian Science gives undoubted proof that God is Love. Throughout the centuries God, our Father-Mother, has been preparing the way for a right apprehension of Himself, "whom to know aright is Life eternal" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, Pref., p. vii). He is ever mindful of His own, and the eternal truth is forever shining through the darkness of mortal thought. The second verse of the Bible begins, "And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep." May we not consider this "deep" as lack of understanding of God? The command which follows, "Let there be light," is heard by those who are waking to God's ever-presence, and who are recognizing in this light the truth of being which separates the light from the darkness.

Before Mrs. Eddy, our beloved Leader, made it apparent that God is Love and knows nothing of evil, men were much more prone to believe that whole-hearted reliance upon God's will might bring disaster and dismay rather than abundant good.

Men have considered themselves miserable sinners, not daring to think of themselves as aught but tools in the hands of an unknown and unknowable God. Since Christ Jesus gave to the world the words, "Thy will be done," they have not received the comfort and protection to be found in these words, until the revelation of Christian Science. They have been filled with doubts and fears as to God's will, and the joy and peace which come when with full assurance we say, "Thy will be done," have therefore been obscured.
