of "Science and Health with Key to...

On pages 12 and 13 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy we read, "In divine Science, where prayers are mental, all may avail themselves of God as 'a very present help in trouble.' " I was enabled to prove this truth a few years ago for my sister, who was then living with me. She was subject to sudden attacks of illness, and was laboring under a nervous breakdown. I could not have treatment for her, as she was not interested in Christian Science, so I had help for myself from a dear friend and practitioner. I was able to leave this sister at home alone for almost a year, while I went out to work daily to earn a living. One day while at my work my employer came to me with the information that my sister had attempted to commit suicide by taking gas, and that men from the city health department were at our home with a resuscitating pulmotor. He told me that she was beyond help. I immediately knew that the real man cannot be separated from Life, which is God. I worked in Science as best I could, and she was revived through this Christian Science treatment, notwithstanding she had inhaled gas for four and a half hours. She had also been exposed to a damp atmosphere out on a porch where the men from the health department had been working over her for several hours. The mortal law was voiced that of necessity she would have pneumonia, and that it might continue for a long time. But after this experience she had no ill effects, and went out riding next day. She is to-day a changed girl and is healthy, happy, and useful.

I myself have been healed of influenza, tonsillitis, and ptomaine poisoning during the past ten or more years through Christian Science, which has been my only help.

I am grateful to be a member of a local Christian Science church and of The Mother Church; also for the privilege of having class instruction. Words cannot express my gratitude to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and to Christ Jesus, who teaches us the truth which makes free; and I now know that "with God all things are possible." My prayer is that I may be worthy to be called a Christian Scientist.
