The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

Far Rockaway, Long Island, New York (First Church).

Lecturer: Hon. William E. Brown; introduced by Mrs. Helen Sondheim, who said:—

Throughout all ages the voice of Truth has been uttering itself, and those who have listened have heard the glorious message. It was this attitude of listening that enabled Moses to lead his people and to hear the divine promise, "My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest." The boy Samuel was ready to answer, "Speak, Lord; for thy servant heareth." Then came Jesus the Christ, listening always for the Father, with sublime wisdom teaching, "I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge." To this age came a listening Mary, our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, who through consecrated listening caught the message of Christian Science, which is bringing freedom from bondage of every sort to those who are listening. I heard its angel tidings eighteen years ago and was raised from the greatest unhappiness to a life of joyful service in Christian Science. Mrs. Eddy asks this question on page 224 of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures": "Will you open or close the door upon this angel visitant, who cometh in the quiet of meekness, as he came of old to the patriarch at noonday?"
