In a recent issue of your paper, under the heading of "Religious Healing," is a summary of an article published on this subject in Mental Hygiene. The fifth heading of this summary refers to the hostility of Christian Science toward the medical profession. While Christian Science is opposed to any other method of healing than the purely spiritual one which it teaches, yet it certainly is not hostile or unfriendly toward those who adopt and practice other methods. The basis of its teaching is God, who is Love; therefore Christian Scientists could not maintain any but a loving, kindly attitude toward any individual or group of individuals and be true to the teachings of their religion. A further reference to Christian Science would seem to indicate that to suggest health is one of the aims of Christian Science. Suggestion is associated with the influence of one mind over another and is not the metaphysical practice of Christian Science, in which health is established through knowing and declaring the truth about God, Spirit, His allness, wholeness, and perfection, and the consequent perfection and wholeness of man in His image and likeness.
