Mere words can never express the deep gratitude I have...

Mere words can never express the deep gratitude I have for Christian Science. Nineteen years ago my parents became interested in this truth, through a friend, and immediately placed me in the Christian Science Sunday School. In this Sunday school, which I attended for several years, I began to learn about God and of man's relationship to Him. The child-thought grasps the truths of Christian Science very rapidly, and I was soon able to make many demonstrations, even through my slight understanding.

I have been blessed with many instantaneous healings through the clear realization that man reflects God; that we do not have to wait until some future time to experience our freedom and harmony, but that at this very moment our real selves are the complete reflection of God. Not all of my healings have been instantaneous: I have had many lessons to learn, which perhaps I would not have learned had my problems been instantly solved. I should like to relate a healing of blood poisoning for the benefit of those who may be inclined to be discouraged over a slow healing.

Five years ago one of my thumbs became infected. For three days and three nights the pain was very intense, and I was unable to sleep at all during that time. Help was asked for from a Christian Science practitioner, and treatment was lovingly given. By this time the infection had spread to the hand. Although the condition was prevented from extending to the arm, yet there seemed to be no improvement in other ways. This went on for some time, the practitioner working faithfully, but having many adverse thoughts to handle from relatives and friends; for thoughts of fear and antagonism seemed very prevalent. During this experience my parents and I moved to California. After a few weeks the suggestion came to have a physician examine the hand. I wrote to the practitioner regarding this desire, and she advised me to do so if it would make me feel any easier. Accordingly, I went to a physician for an examination. After a few moments he said that in all his experience he had never seen such a hand, and advised me, if it was not better in a few days, to return to him and he would attend to it. Two weeks from that time the demonstration was complete, the flesh of the hand and thumb being as fresh and clean as a babe's, with not even a scar in evidence. It was fully six months before this healing was accomplished, but during that time I learned somewhat the meaning of the words on page 454 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy: "Wait patiently for divine Love to move upon the waters of mortal mind, and form the perfect concept. Patience must have her perfect work.'"
