I first became interested in Christian Science about...
I first became interested in Christian Science about thirty-seven years ago, when all material aid had failed me; and I was healed of many ailments. Later, I was healed of tuberculosis and pneumonia after several doctors, who had been called in by relatives, had pronounced my case incurable. One of the doctors said at one time that I could live but a few minutes unless I took a heart stimulant, which I refused to do. While I realized that seeming seriousness of my condition, I told my family that I wanted nothing but Christian Science, and still had faith that God would heal me.
I had been having treatments from a dear practitioner who had helped me, but when the seeming crisis came I asked that a telegram be sent to a practitioner in my old home town in Iowa, asking for help. A few minutes after she received the message all pain left me, a wonderful sense of peace came, and the hemorrhages ceased immediately. That was about eight o'clock in the evening; and the next morning I got up and dressed and sang "Shepherd, show me how to go" by Mary Baker Eddy (Poems, p. 14), whereas the evening before I could speak only in a whisper. It seemed that the very gates of heaven were opened to me, and my healing was marvelous to everyone.
This healing, which took place over twenty years ago, has been permanent. We have had many beautiful healings since then, and wonderful protection for a family of six children, who all love the blessed truth. I have passed through deep waters since then, but God has been my help and stay, my All; and I can say with the Psalmist of old, "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases." I wish to express my gratitude for the great privilege of visiting The Mother Church, and for the great joy and help it was to me. I am grateful to God, the Giver of all good, for Christian Science. We know it is the Comforter promised by our dear Master, and that it has been given to the world through our dearly beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy.
