Since coming into Christian Science in the spring of 1916,...

Since coming into Christian Science in the spring of 1916, I have had many healings. Malaria, with severe chills and fever, was quickly overcome with the help of a practitioner. I had suffered from this malady all through childhood, and it had continued off and on until I was healed in Christian Science, when it disappeared, and I have not had an attack for many years.

I have been healed of colds, grippe, a sprained ankle, and many other discords. One recent healing I wish to mention, as it seemed very wonderful to me. It was the healing of broken and dislocated bones, which resulted from an accident in the summer of 1926. I fell from a plank into a ditch of mud and water, landing with the weight of my body on my left hand, breaking or dislocating the wrist bones. The lower thumb joint was also injured. The minute I realized what had happened, I began to repeat the "scientific statement of being" from our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 468). We were at a picnic, and a doctor in the party helped me to get up and wanted to examine my hand, but I would not submit to an examination. He managed to see enough of it, however, to cause him to say, "Well, it is broken; I have seen too many not to know that." I felt that I had been protected in not having an examination. I kept the hand in a sling, and did not examine it, remembering that Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 418), "Tumors, ulcers, tubercles, inflammation, pain, deformed joints, are waking dream-shadows, dark images of mortal thought, which flee before the light of Truth."

As soon as the accident occurred, I whispered to my sister, also a student of Christian Science, to telephone a practitioner as quickly as possible; and in about twenty minutes this had been done. Work was lovingly taken up. The fever was soon overcome, and eventually circulation was restored, although that was some time later. After a few weeks I continued with the Science work myself, and at no time suffered any pain. To-day I have normal use of my hand, and the slight evidence of dislocation is rapidly disappearing.
