I am deeply grateful for what Christian Science has done...

I am deeply grateful for what Christian Science has done for me in many ways, both large and small.

On the tenth of December, 1923, I was dismissed from a hospital as incurable, with a cancer that had made great inroads. I had been doctoring with the best doctors I could find, and had been using radium; but the trouble seemed to get worse. The pain in my head had become so great I had to resort to drugs, but I could get no relief. With a wife and three small children depending upon me, I had tried hard to keep going; but finally came to where I did not know anything. I was lost to the world, and kept alive apparently only by the use of a drug. My wife had given up hope.

On the morning when I was at the worst stage, my sister, whom I had not seen for years, came to the door. She did not know my condition, and had not wanted to come at that time of the year; but her husband, having business there, had insisted on her coming to see me. She was then living in a distant city. Owing to the condition I was in (being drugged with morphine), I did not know her at all. My wife came in, but never having seen her, she did not know who she was. After a very trying time, however, they finally understood each other.
