Mrs. Eddy gave the Manual of The Mother Church as...
Mrs. Eddy gave the Manual of The Mother Church as a book of directions or rules, and specifies therein that the giving of testimonies is "highly important" (p. 47). As a professed student and follower of Christian Science, I feel that it is "highly important" for me to comply with the rules laid down, in so far as I understand them; therefore, I wish to add my testimony of gratitude for all that the study and application of Christian Science has brought into my life in the past ten years.
It was approximately five years before I was healed of the trouble for which I took up the study of Christian Science; but during that time there were many minor healings, such as the belief in the power of medicine, chronic constipation, chills, fever, pneumonia, and fear of being alone. Resentment, hate, and fear of different kinds were cleared out to a marked degree; the consciousness of an unhappy past was wiped out; in fact, the whole trend of my life was changed, and I indeed became a new creature. At the end of five years I was completely healed of chronic catarrh of the head, which was the cause of my seeking Christian Science help in the first place.
With this healing came a great spiritual awakening, and I began to find myself as a child of God; and God was revealed to me as the God of love, the God who is ever present with all of us, and whom we can turn to and trust at all times. A great calm and peace came into my experience as the result of systematic and faithful study of the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly each day, as well as all of Mrs. Eddy's books, together with the literature published by The Christian Science Publishing Society. As each human footstep was taken, such as branch church membership, Mother Church membership, and class instruction, added blessings resulted and larger opportunities for service were presented to me.
