During the first year of my study of Christian Science...
During the first year of my study of Christian Science I was healed of frequent colds, catarrh, fever sores, headaches, and a trouble with my eyes that made reading very painful. But never did reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy cause the slightest suffering, although I read the book almost constantly, and also the Journal and Sentinel. I was healed of an extreme fear of contagious diseases, accompanied with intense nervousness, finding no passing moment of peace. Is it any wonder that I love my liberator, Christian Science? My husband was healed almost at once of thinking it pleasant to be a systematic and moderate drinker; also, of smoking. Our daughter, who is now nineteen years old, has had the continuous privilege of the Christian Science Sunday School since she was three years old. In our home God has been our only Physician, and Truth our only medicine, since we turned to Christian Science. Complete freedom from the use of medicine came during the first two weeks of treatment, and has been permanent.
I have long wanted to give to the world my testimony of a demonstration of mental surgery. The day following the birth of our little boy the nurse who was attending him reported that he had not urinated, and there seemed to be a condition that to mortal sense made that function appear impossible. She suggested that the Christian Science practitioner who was handling the case be notified. Accordingly, we called the practitioner and told her about it. The condition seemed very serious, but immediately all fear and anxiety left. On page 182 of Science and Health we read, "The act of healing the sick through divine Mind alone, of casting out error with Truth, shows your position as a Christian Scientist." Truth was at work, and normal functioning of the kidneys was established before the nurse left (in less than ten days); and all material evidences of the structural defect were completely overcome, and the child was perfectly normal and healthy inside of three weeks.
I am grateful for the seeming trials of sense that "turn us like tired children to the arms of divine Love" (ibid., p. 322). I am glad to be living in a period when there is a complete statement of Christianity, with unchanging rules for its demonstration. I am truly grateful for Christian Science and its divine means of helping and saving mankind.
