The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

Port Jervis, New York (First Church).

Lecturer: Dr. John M. Tutt; introduced by Miss Clara H. Olmstead, who said:—

Centuries ago the question, "What is truth?" was asked by Pilate of the Master in the hall of judgment. On another occasion Jesus, talking to those Jews who believed on him, said, "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." All down the centuries, from that time to this, men have been asking for a satisfying answer to that question. Jesus taught that God is Love. If there is one thing this world needs more than anything else it is love—the love Jesus bore for humanity. Christian Science not only teaches the truth about God and man's relation to Him, but it also gives the understanding of God as Life and Love; and with this understanding, sin, sickness, sorrow, fear, discouragement—discord of every name and nature—disappear. On page 225 of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy says, "Love is the liberator."
