"Be ye transformed"

In the twelfth chapter of Romans Paul admonishes, "Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 241) we read, "The Bible teaches transformation of the body by the renewal of Spirit." Webster's dictionary defines the verb "renew" as meaning "to restore to freshness, perfection, ... to restore to existence;" while it states that to transform means "to change in outward shape or semblance; to change in nature, disposition."

Throughout the ages mankind has been crying out for renewal, for the restoration of the mind and body to freshness, to perfection. Men have been longing to be transformed, to have their sick bodies changed so as to manifest health; while the sinning have longed to be freed from the bonds of evil and to experience this change in "nature, disposition." Today Christian Science is explaining how this transformation may be accomplished. It is teaching mankind how to renew thought, how to exchange beliefs of fear, lust, malice, revenge, mad ambition, sickness, sin, and death for thoughts of love, kindness, cheerfulness, goodness, purity, joy, and life. It is lifting mankind out of the darkness of wrong thinking or believing into the realm of true thinking, into the sunshine of Truth; and this renewing of our mind means health, happiness, and holiness.

Jesus said, "And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me." By this did not the Master mean that as our consciousness is lifted through the truth above sickly, fearful, sinful beliefs, all that we are conscious of, including that which we call body, must necessarily improve simultaneously, since consciousness and that of which it is conscious are one?
