In the comment on the international Sunday School lesson appearing in your recent issue, a writer introduces the subject of Christian Science healing. Christian Scientists have no quarrel with those who disagree with their methods, and shun religious controversy; hence it is only with the desire to have the subject correctly presented that this letter is offered.

The method used by Christian Scientists in healing the sick and reforming the sinner is that employed by Christ Jesus. The Master taught and proved that sickness and sin are overcome in precisely the same manner. Christian Scientists are able to speak with authority on the subject, for they know within their hearts that the change wrought in them could have been accomplished only by divine power. This method is quite different from the practice of sending patients to hospitals and then praying that physicians shall have the skill and wisdom to do the healing. Christ Jesus was the most successful healer the world has known. It is evident that he knew something on the subject that is unknown to materialists. It is also evident that he did not violate the law of God; hence the reasonable conclusion that his works were the natural result of obedience to the divine order. Christian Scientists have proved that the so-called diseases and other discords of mortals are but the effects of their ignorance of God and consequent sin and fear, and that the remedy divinely revealed is to know God as Christ Jesus did and obediently to follow the Christ in humility and love.

With reference to broken bones and contagious diseases, it is fair to state that Christian Scientists are singularly immune from these. Although they may employ surgeons to set broken bones, yet there are authentic records of broken bones having come into proper place and of crooked bones having been made straight through Christian Science treatment. At present, because of propaganda calculated to instill fear, the sane, reasonable attitude of Christian Scientists toward so-called contagious diseases does not always have the thoughtfull consideration deserved. With all due respect to physicians and their good intentions, mortals are much inclined to accept medical opinion as final while forgetting that material medical theories frequently change.
