I wish to express my deep gratitude to our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. If I were to recount all of the benefits, both physical and mental, which my family and I have received through Christian Science, I could fill these pages from cover to cover. I think the knowledge of the ever present power of God, which Christian Science brings to a mother, is the greatest blessing of all. As a mother of six children it has been a blessing to me to be able to overcome different sicknesses and the results of accidents.
When my little son was five years old, he was climbing on some old lumber one day when he slipped and fell. He came in crying and showed me a sliver in his middle finger. The sliver was just under the skin. When my husband came in to dinner he looked at the finger and said he thought there was another sliver embedded more deeply. He said we would have to take the child to town to the doctor and have the sliver taken out. I told him I thought it would be all right without doing that. After dinner the child asked me to hold him and read out of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. This I did, and he went to sleep. While he was asleep I picked out the sliver which showed, and I knew that if there was another the truth would remove it. After the first hour or so he never mentioned his finger again. A week from that day while playing he called me saying, "Mama, look what is sticking out of my finger;" and I pulled out a sliver about an inch long. There was no inflammation of any kind. The incident showed me so clearly that when we know the truth, and do not worry over the seeming material ailment, the healing comes.
I cannot close without expressing my thankfulness for The Christian Science Journal, the Christian Science Sentinel, and The Christian Science Monitor.
