It is quite useless for your correspondent, "A Christian,"...

Malvern Gazette

It is quite useless for your correspondent, "A Christian," to deny that Christian Science is demonstrable Christian knowledge, when millions throughout the civilized world are to-day proving it to be such. The many quotations from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which he gives in his attempt to prove his contention, only strengthen the fact that Christian Science is Christian, that it conforms to the teachings of Christ Jesus, and is producing the fruits demanded by the Founder of Christianity. Christian Science claims nothing for Christ Jesus that he did not claim for himself. He never claimed that he was God. In fact, he even rebuked one for calling him "Good Master." "Why callest thou me good?" he said, "there is none good but one, that is, God." It would have been strange to use such words if he had thought himself to be God. Jesus often spoke of himself as the Son of man. According to our critic's reasoning, if he consider Jesus to be God, then God would be the Son of man, which is absurd. The Christ, or divine idea, was manifested through the human Jesus. "The Christ," Mrs. Eddy declares on page 8 of her Message to The Mother Church for 1901, "was Jesus' spiritual selfhood; therefore Christ existed prior to Jesus, who said, 'Before Abraham was, I am.'"
