While I was reading the eighth chapter of Mark, the significance of the third and fourth verses as applied to my own experience brought to my thought a sharp reminder that I had not sent my written testimony, expressing my heartfelt gratitude for the great truths of Christian Science, as revealed to us by its Discoverer and Founder, Mary Baker Eddy, and for all the benefits I had received since I became a student of this glorious revelation to mankind.
It is recorded that the Saviour, compassionately surveying the multitude, said, "If I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far." And the disciples answered him, "From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness?" It was from a wilderness of remorse, fear, sin, sickness, failure, and despair that I turned to follow the Christ, Truth, and was not left fasting, to faint by the way, but rather nourished and healed by this bread from heaven, for I had indeed come "from far." I shall never forget or cease to be grateful for the loving interest and patient guidance of the dear practitioner who fed me with just what I was able to bear and no more, and for those visits to the Reading Room, where I went hungering and thirsting, returning to my own house filled and strengthened; and with this bread, blessed by the saving Christ, I was able to lift up my eyes to heaven and give thanks.
Since that time I have been healed of many physical ills, including curvature of the spine, catarrh, chronic constipation and headaches, rheumatism, quinsy, neuritis, eczema, incipient stages of cancer, and many minor ailments that human flesh is said to be heir to, I was also healed of extreme nervousness and the habitual biting of finger nails, which I had believed to be hereditary and handed down through several generations as a family trait. The excessive use of tobacco in all forms left me; and I was able to lay aside my glasses the day I purchased a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, for which I paid my last earthly dollar—the most profitable purchase I have ever made.
