Before I came into Christian Science I was a very sick person. I had severe pains around my stomach and at the same time in my back. I consulted many doctors, but none of them were able to help me. One of them told me I was suffering from a gastric ulcer; another diagnosed the difficulty as gallstones; a specialist whom I consulted thought it to be nervous pains. As my condition grew much worse, I consulted a surgeon. He said there was an ulcer in the duodenum, and sent me to a hospital to undergo an operation. Then still greater suffering began, owing to the various methods of treatment I was subjected to. Still I did not notice any improvement; on the contrary, I grew weaker and lost all hope. After six weeks I was, however, discharged from the hospital as improved. When I reached home the severe pains commenced again, and I hardly dared eat anything for fear of pain. The severe attacks increased in number, and I suffered such pain that I could neither lie nor sit down; my one wish was to die. When I asked my physician if I could not be healed, his answer was, "I am not God."

A dear relative in Magdeburg, an adherent of Christian Science, had often written to me about blessings and healings received through Christian Science, but I was not ready for this teaching. On the contrary, I tried biochemistry, and the severe pains continued to torment me. Then I received another letter from my relatives, and all at once I realized that God alone could help me. I asked a dear Christian Science practitioner for help, which was lovingly given. I learned to overcome fear of food, and in four weeks I was healed.

I am endeavoring to understand the Bible better and better in connection with our wonderful textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I am now able to take care of our home, and am more than happy. I am also sincerely grateful to our Father-Mother God for my complete restoration to health. I attend the wonderful services in our church regularly, and am endeavoring to become better in thought, word, and deed, and to live to honor God. Studying Christian Science affords me great pleasure, and the Lesson-Sermons are a source of many blessings.
