In Isaiah we read: "How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!" Many times I have felt more grateful than words can ever express to all those who, from the mountain top of exalted consciousness, have published through the medium of The Christian Science Journal and the Christian Science Sentinel their testimonies of healing, preservation, and regeneration, experienced through the study and application of Truth as taught in Christian Science. In the hope that others seeking the true light may be helped and blessed as I have been, I send this grateful testimony.
About eight years ago, when all hope of ever being well had vanished, my attention was turned to Christian Science by an earnest-hearted student whose very earnestness proclaimed that he, at least, had found good. Up to this time I had never heard of Christian Science; and I was very skeptical when my friend told me what it could do for me if I would only study the truth it taught. I had always been a Bible student with a keen desire for Truth, but I was very fearful that Christian Science might lead me away from God.
Christian Science found me practically a physical wreck, bound by so-called health laws and afraid—hopelessly afraid—of physical selfhood. I had undergone six operations in seven years for internal troubles, had been in the hands of various doctors for about thirteen years, and had suffered with spinal trouble during almost the whole of this time. I was wearing surgical belts and always used an air cushion when sitting. In fairness to doctors and nurses I must say that they were most kind to me and did all they could to give relief. But when told that still another operation was necessary,—removal of the end of the vertebral column,—I felt I had endured enough at the hands of the medical profession and said "No," decidedly. I was then told that I was simply wasting time and money in seeking medical help, as only surgery could aid me. I felt in despair, but refused the operation. Then I had electric treatment, which left me where it found me—a hopeless invalid. And to me in this state came "tidings of good." The Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was kindly lent me, and the testimonies contained in it convinced me that if Christian Science could help one it could help all. I immediately wrote to a practitioner, who very lovingly took up my case and most patiently helped me into the understanding of Truth as taught by Christ Jesus.
