Coexistence with God

Through all the writings of our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, there runs a glorious theme, a theme, indeed, that has been singing its way into the hearts of men ever since Christ Jesus, our perfect Way-shower, gave his wonderful message to men; and that theme is man's unity with God. Only a glimpse of its meaning, vouchsafed to the wise and good of every age, has inspired them to praise and magnify God; and now that its full, joy-bringing message has been revealed to us in Christian Science, we thankfully meditate upon it, and strive for a clearer realization of this blessed and eternal truth. On page 516 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy has written, "Man and woman as coexistent and eternal with God forever reflect, in glorified quality, the infinite Father-Mother God." This thought, held faithfully before us, and realized, has power to overcome all the discordant and erroneous beliefs of that great and only sinner and falsifier, the carnal or mortal mind.

The absolute nature of the truth of man's coexistence with God makes it impossible for us to go too far in the prayerful consideration of it, or to use it too constantly; and no circumstance can arise where it should not be our first thought and our final dependence. Following our Leader's faultless logic, based on this premise, we shall become more and more convinced, uplifted, and strengthened.

Whatever the problem confronting us may be, it need never be thought unsolvable and accepted into consciousness as real, if we quickly use this truth of man's coexistence with the Father. Can the real man be unhealthy? No, since he is at-one with the perfect Father. Can he be poor? No, because coexistence with God means to dwell in the consciousness of unlimited good. Can he lack wisdom? No, since infinite wisdom is always with him, whatever the seeming. Can he be neglected, lonely, sorrowful? No, since this would mean separation from the omnipresent divine Love, in whom "we live, and move, and have our being." These denials can always be made, and they will lead us to see that "the infinite penetration of Truth," spoken of by our Leader on page 2 of "Unity of Good," can explore every dark corner of our specific troubles and dispel their shadows with its light; for "in him is no darkness at all," as the beloved disciple tells us.
