I went to the Methodist Episcopal Sunday School when I was small, and was baptized into the church. My parents attended the same church, and I went there until I was about sixteen years of age. From then on I wandered like a ship without a rudder until I found Christian Science, about six years ago.
I read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. It appealed to me at first because I was looking for a foundation and I had found it; but the truth had to be demonstrated. At first I thought that to accept it was sufficient; but, as Mrs. Eddy says (Science and Health, p. 407), "only by a mighty struggle" can we attain.
Words cannot express my gratitude for Christian Science and for the many healings which have come to me mentally and physically through it, some instantaneous and some seemingly slow. I had an enlargement on the neck. I was visiting in the country at the time, and at night a fear of being unable to breathe came upon me. I labored the whole night through trying to get my breath. I tried to read Science and Health, because, as there was no telephone in the house, I could not call a practitioner; and with what little I knew of Christian Science and of God I arose next morning and drove to town (I was the only one who knew how to drive) to call a practitioner. I was soon able to breathe naturally, and the enlargement passed away. My hair fell out, but has grown again. Healing is a natural result which follows as we are morally uplifted by demonstrating the truth; and, as the Psalmist said, "I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness." Christian Science has helped me in all walks of life. It has been a great help to my family, and is wonderful in healing children.
